Gujarat Ayurved University is first of its kind dedicated to Ayurveda
Education and Research, established in 1967 under an Act in the
Assembly of State of Gujarat (Gujarat Ayurved University Act,
1965). It was formed by merging the three important institutes
functioning in one campus at Jamnagar and later new institutes
and departments were added to the University umbrella. Research
and education are integral part of teaching and learning process
in the university. The university has well defined goals and
objectives and the educational programs of the university are
well in accordance with the same from certificate course to
doctoral degree programs.
The curriculum of the university aims at producing excellent human resources
in Ayurveda and allied sciences in teaching, training,
treatment, research, extension, global promotion and
propagation.

The university follows a systematic process in the design and development of
the curriculum. The certificate, diploma, degree, post graduate
and doctoral programs are designed and developed by the expert
committees duly appointed by the university and approved by
statutory bodies of the university; it has representation from
academics, industries, government sectors, aluminee and other
stakeholders within and outside the university. The curriculum
for the undergraduate (BAMS) and postgraduate courses of
Ayurveda, M.D./M.S. (Ayu) is followed according to the syllabus
designed by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), where
the faculties of the university are actively involved. The
university ensures the participation of all the departments
while designing the curriculum. The curriculum of various
courses is a perfect blend of ayurvedic and contemporary modern
sciences. The university is keen in developing a curriculum for
the overall development of students and it also adds newer
points in the curriculum related to the advances in the medical
sciences considering the local, regional, national, and global
developmental needs.
The curriculums of all the programs offered by the university are targeted
to self employment and there are ample of opportunities
worldwide for developing entrepreneurship, employability and
pursuit higher knowledge. The students of the university are
employed or self-employed entrepreneurs or pursuing
specialization courses in the university, within India and
abroad.
The specially designed need based curriculum for various skill development
programs for both technical and non-technical streams are
supported by the university, and the affiliated and constituent
institutions are encouraged to take leadership in implementing
the these courses.

The university offers the programs developed by regulatory body (CCIM): BAMS
and M.D./M.S. (Ayu) and further university has designed and run
unique courses: M.Pharm (Ayu), M.Sc. (Medicinal plants
sciences), BNYS (Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga Sciences),
B.Pharm (Ayu), D. Pharm (Ayu), D.Nat.Yoga (Ayu), Certificate
course in Yoga & Naturopathy, PGDYN (PG Diploma in Yoga and
Naturopathy), Introductory course of Ayurveda for foreigners,
Certificate course of Panchakarma technician, Certificate course
in Gruha Ayurveda, Basic and advanced certificate course in
Panchakarma, Basic and advanced certificate course in
Ksharasutra, Certificate course in Ayurveda Dentistry and
Certificate course in Nadi Sutra (Traditional Nadi Vijyana). The
new programs developed by the University under certificate and
PG diploma are added on courses to meet the need of students and
society.

The university follows annual examination and/or professional examination
system as per the directive of regulatory body (CCIM). Students
are allowed to transfer as per their choice from one affiliated
college to another affiliated college at the end of academic
year on availability of seats. Further, there is flexibility for
student to complete the internship at different Ayurvedic
colleges as per their choice.
The University is an implementing body of the curriculum and
syllabus designed and directed by CCIM, New Delhi for BAMS and
MD/MS (Ayu) courses. However, the University reviews the same by
its Board of Studies every year for up gradation wherever
needed. University designed and implemented the syllabus for
exclusive courses run by the university.

The syllabus and curriculum developed by the university are regularly
reviewed every year by the concerned academic bodies, importance
is given to emerging and thrust areas and new programs too are
designed and implemented. The students of every category have
access to these value added programs.
Gujarat Ayurved University has all the professional value added programs in
the field of Ayurveda, Panchakarma, Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical
Sciences, Medicinal Plants and Yoga & Naturopathy. Certificate
courses, Basic and Advance certificate courses, Diploma courses
and Post-Graduation Diploma courses are available for the
students, Interns, PG Scholars and PhD Scholars for the value
additions in their academic career. These courses can be opted
along with their regular study and other than the duty hours.
Special value added courses are also offered for international
scholars.

University takes curriculum feedback periodically from the
students in the form of open discussion, and the justified
suggestions are forwarded to the concerned Board of studies and
Academic bodies for necessary considerations. University also
has a special mechanism of online feedback for teaching
assessment from the students.

Feedbacks from experts and peers are obtained through comments, suggestions
and observations during their visits for inspection, special
lectures, examinations and other academic visits. Renowned
national and international personalities of Ayurveda are members
of the various committees of the University. They provide
expertise for enrichment of Academic programs. Inputs from
affiliated colleges of the university are also taken during the
Board of studies or Academic body meetings, where one subject
teacher from each affiliated college is a special invitee.

University, based upon the feedbacks received from society, government
agencies, subject experts and industrialists has taken necessary
steps to improvise the curriculum for quality sustenance. In the
recent past, the following are the major outcomes: introduction
of University School of Continuing Education in Ayurved (USCE)
and commencement of various short term certificate courses under
it; e-learning course; up-gradation of the syllabus of all the
courses; enhancement in teaching- learning strategies like
conducting regular seminars, teaching through multimedia and
practical approach, industrial visits and training, development
of academic calendars etc. |
